What you need to know |
Rules and regulations In most Australian states and territories, an electric bike with pedals and a motor of not more than 200W is considered a bicycle and does not need registration, CTP insurance, or a licence to ride. Like conventional bicycles though, a rider is required to wear an approved helmet. See the following links for the specific rules in your state: |
What is it like to ride an electric bike? It is just like riding a normal bicycle with someone to give you a bit of a push up hills. You will find you don't have to change gears as often to accommodate slight inclines and you certainly won't have to stand on the pedals to give that extra power. On a flat surface you can rely totally on the electric motor to get you going. When negotiating hills you will need to pedal and change gears but with much less effort than you would on a conventional bike. |
